Which One Do You Actually Need?

Most calls sort into four situations. If you burn wood through a Flathead winter and it has been a year or more, you want a sweep, which includes a Level 1 inspection anyway - so you find out the condition of the flue as part of the same visit rather than paying twice.

If a property is changing hands, you want a Level 2 inspection instead. That is the standard for a sale, it puts a camera through the entire flue rather than a torch up from the firebox, and it produces a document with your name on it that survives the negotiation. Buying a valley house with an unknown chimney history and skipping this is the single most expensive shortcut we see here.

And if the dryer takes two cycles to do what it used to do in one, that is a vent problem, not a chimney one - and it is cheapest booked alongside a sweep, since the truck is already at the house and much of the same equipment does the work.

The fourth is relining, and it is almost always downstream of one of the others - the sweep or the Level 2 finds cracked tile, an open joint, or a flue several times too wide for the insert now connected to it. Since we are the outfit that runs the camera and also sells the liner, we quote the two separately and hand you the raw footage, so a second opinion costs you nothing but a phone call.
